School Day and Timings

At Graven Hill Primary and Preschool, our daily routines are designed to give children a calm, punctual and settled start to their learning. Establishing good habits around attendance and punctuality — even in the Preschool years — supports children’s wellbeing, prepares them for future schooling, and helps them make the most of every learning opportunity.

Start of the Day

  • School gates open at 8:30am for both Preschool and Primary.
  • Preschool session 1 begins promptly at 8.30am
  • Primary aged children are expected to be onsite and in classrooms by 8:40am, ready for the structured start of learning at 8:45am.

A settled arrival helps children feel secure and ready to learn. Being on time means they can take part in morning routines, build relationships, and begin the day positively.

Breakfast Club

  • Breakfast Club runs from 7:45am to 8:45am.
  • Children attending Breakfast Club are taken safely to their classrooms by staff at 8:45am, ensuring a smooth and supported transition into the school day.

End of the Day

  • Preschool day ends at 3:00pm.
  • Primary school day ends at 3:15pm.

These staggered finish times help ease congestion at collection and ensure a calm end to the day for both age groups.

After School Club

Our After School provision supports families who need childcare beyond the school day:

  • For Preschool children:
    3:00pm – 5:15pm
  • For Primary-aged children:
    3:15pm – 5:15pm

Children enjoy a safe, nurturing environment with activities, play opportunities, and a light meal included as part of the provision.

Why Punctuality Matters — Even in Preschool

Good attendance and punctuality are essential life habits, and they begin early. Arriving on time helps children:

  • Settle quickly and feel secure
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Join in social interactions with friends
  • Take part in daily routines that support learning
  • Develop strong learning attitudes that benefit them throughout their school career

Even in Preschool, these consistent routines help children feel ready, calm and connected — setting a strong foundation for the years ahead.
