Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to help schools close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. It is designed to ensure that the children who need the most support receive the highest‑quality provision, and that schools are able to meet their needs effectively.
This funding is allocated directly to schools and is clearly identifiable in our budget. It is for the school to decide how best to use it, as we are best placed to assess what additional provision will make the greatest difference for the pupils in our care.
Who Is Eligible for Pupil Premium?
Children may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding if they fall into one or more of the following groups (as defined nationally):
- Pupils who are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM)
- Pupils who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (“Ever 6”)
- Children who are looked after or have previously been in care
- Children from families where a parent is serving in the armed forces
If you think your child may be eligible, the school office can support you in applying.
Our Approach at Graven Hill
At Graven Hill Primary and Preschool, inclusion is at the heart of our ethos and values. We are committed to ensuring that all children—particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds—belong, achieve and thrive. Our approach to Pupil Premium is:
Evidence‑Based and Research‑Informed
Our strategy for spending draws heavily on guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), which provides robust evidence on the approaches that have the greatest impact on improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
Part of Our Whole‑School Inclusion Model
The Pupil Premium sits within our wider commitment to inclusion and removing barriers for vulnerable pupils. As our Inclusion Team pages make clear, the Pupil Premium lead at Graven Hill is the Headteacher, ensuring strategic oversight and a joined‑up approach to supporting need.
Focused on High‑Quality Teaching and Targeted Support
We know that the most effective way to improve outcomes is through excellent teaching, carefully tailored interventions, and approaches that support wellbeing, attendance and access to the curriculum.
How We Report Pupil Premium Spending
All schools are required to publish an annual Pupil Premium Strategy Report, explaining:
- how much funding has been received
- how the funding has been spent
- the evidence base behind spending decisions
- the intended impact of the chosen strategies
- the measurable outcomes achieved
Our most recent Pupil Premium Strategy can be found on the policies page here
This report is reviewed and updated every year and submitted to the Warriner Multi Academy Trust for oversight. It forms part of our statutory duty and reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Working Together to Support Every Child
Our goal is to ensure that every pupil—regardless of background—has the highest‑quality learning experiences, the strongest support, and the widest opportunities. By using our Pupil Premium funding strategically and thoughtfully, we aim to remove barriers to success, accelerate progress, and help every child become a confident, capable and resilient learner.
If you have any questions about eligibility or how we use the funding, please contact the school office or speak to our Pupil Premium Lead.
